Savage Excavation is a full-service drilling company with expertise in all phases of environmental, sonic, & geotechnical drilling, excavation, land clearing, mineral exploration, and other field services. We offer state-of-the art drilling equipment and services at highly competitive prices and are conveniently located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Along with serving Texas, we are also licensed in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and New Mexico to preform various drilling services that include sonic drilling, mineral exploration, direct push technology (DPT), hollow-stem auger, solid stem (flight) auger, mud rotary, air rotary, rock core drilling, and wire line sampling. Savage utilizes a fleet of environmental and geotechnical drilling rigs: Terra Sonic 150cc, Geoprobe 3126, CME 55 Truck Mounted Rig, CME 55 Low Clearance (LC) Track Rig, Diedrich D70 Track Rig, and a Geoprobe 7822DT Track Rig. Savage has been in business since 2015. Since 2017 we expanded into the drilling market. Starting with a single rig performing mostly residential job. Since then, our fleet has grown to 6 rigs.
Key Personnel
Garrett Varner, Founder and CEO of Savage Excavation, has entrepreneurship in the root of his morals, raised around successful businessmen. Garrett started savage excavation with single bobcat and pick-up truck. He was able to successfully grow from a residential landscape owner/operator to completing full scale excavation work for commercial projects in the Dallas Area. Garrett was able to branch off the excavation industry into Geotechnical drilling. He has taken a single rig company and has grown into a fleet of specialized core drilling rigs. Prior to starting his professional career Garrett attended Texas State Technical College and Tulsa Welding College which allowed him to formally expand his education in fabrication and mechanics. He started his career in Oil and Gas om drilling rigs, which lead him to expanding his knowledge into completion services. During his time in Oil and Gas completions Garrett was exposed to sales and key account management. With the Oil and Gas Downturn in 2015 Garrett had the realization and forward-thinking to land himself in a stable construction and utility market. This led him to develop a growing company that operates at a Savage standard.
Brett Hernandez, CFO, joined Savage in July of 2019 and has the primary responsibility of back office operations. Has taken over financial reporting, health and Safety operations, and Human Resources. Brett has a B.S. in Business Administration (EJ Ourso College of Business) from Louisiana State University. Before joining Savage, Brett successfully was part of an Oil and Gas Service startup in which he learned the intricate workings of a growth company from field experience to part of the accounting team. He was also a key role in operations for 110% growth the Permian Basin, participated on a transaction team for a recapitalization of company evaluated at $85MM, as well as orchestrated the accounting and strategic organization of an expansion service company. Brett’s exposure to the tremendous growth and success of Spartan Energy Services has encouraged him to join Savage during the critical stages of growth to head up organization as the company pushes forward on expansion in the DFW area
Eric W. Hutton, COO, is a licensed State of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Louisiana Monitoring Well Driller, a Certified Well Driller (CWD) through the National Groundwater Association, and former Environmental Consultant. Although a Texas native, Mr. Hutton attended Oregon State University for Environmental Science. Throughout his 16+ years in the industry, Mr. Hutton has successfully led and overseen drilling operations at multiple multi-million dollar drilling corporations. As a monitoring well driller, Mr. Hutton has experience with various drilling applications including hollow stem auger, solid stem (flight) auger, direct push, mud/air rotary, sonic, and chemical injections. Further, as a consultant, Mr. Hutton has completed and overseen numerous ASTM and SBA compliant Phase I All Appropriate Inquiries, Phase II subsurface investigations, Phase III remediation systems, mobile dual-phase extraction, soil characterization/disposal, aquifer slug testing, underground storage tank removals, and other risk-based assessments in compliance with various state agencies. Mr. Hutton is currently the President of the Lone Star Chapter of the National Drilling Association and of the North Texas Association of Environmental Professionals.
